Mudvayne

Started-1996

Mudvayne is a band that my sister was obsessed with and it’s pretty easy to tell why. They just make you want to get into the music. Songs like “Dig” and “Happy?” are pretty popular and it’s for good reason. Have you ever hear these songs? They are pieces of music that get you hooked and then keep you coming back for more. At least this is what happened with me.

One of my favorite songs by them is “Not Falling”.

Hellyeah

Started- About 2006 ( their first album)

Collaboration of greatness that is what this band is. All members are from other great bands and together they are incredible. The line up consists of Chad Gray on vocals (Mudvayne), Greg Tribbett on guitar (Mudvayne), Tom Maxwell on guitar (Nothingface), Bob Zilla on bass (Damageplan), and Vinnie Paul former drummer of Pantera and Damageplan.

The band my be recently created but the members have been around music for a long time and they know what they are doing check them out if you don’t already know who there are. I really want to check them out on tour and maybe I will get to soon.

AND then there is “Hellyeah” the song.

Megadeth

Started-1983

Can French sound cool? I didn’t used to think so until I heard Megadeth’s “A Tout Le Monde”. This song is great but I couldn’t find a good video with out the female singer. The sound mesh together so well and the French just makes it even better. I should probably look up what it means but that might just ruin it for me. Kind of like hearing the english version of “Du Hast” by Rammstein or “99 Red Balloons” by Nena. These songs do not benefit from being make into english.

Started-1983

Megadeth was formed by Dave Mustaine formally from Metalica. He started this band and in my opinion it has been a greater success. I only say this because I feel like Metalica has been going down hill and I would rather remember them for what they were.

I’m just recently started to get into Megadeth but they are proving to be worth while. I enjoy that they have been adding so more styles to their music and not just keeping it on the heavy side. That can be great for dome but this band has proven that they can do a variety of styles.

Pat Benatar

Pat Benatar- Born Patricia Andrzejewski on January 10, 1953

This is a legendary woman. She is a four time Grammy winner and has six platinum records as well as four gold albums. She is extremely talented and with the help of her husband Neil Giraldo her accomplishments have seemed limitless. I know that there have been a lot of great female artist like Stevie Nicks, Heart and Janis Joplin but Pat Benatar is probably number one for me with heart in second. Yah Janis Joplin was amazing but something about her just isn’t for me.

Benatar has put out such hits as “Treat me right”, “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”, “Love Is A battle Field”, Fire and Ice”, and many more. If I ever get the chance to go and see her perform I would not hesitate. She just gives off a strength that’s hard to describe.

So the 80’s were a brilliant time when it came to music but when I see the videos from the time they just make me laugh. The artist always appear to be trying too hard, which I understand but they should have just been having more fun with it in my opinion. But I guess that was also the style.

LOOK at the crowd. It’s amazing.

System of A Down

Began as System of A Down in- 1995

System of A Down’s name came from a poem written by Daron Malakian Guitarist; they were previously named Soil.

Victims of a Down

Poem written by Daron Malakian

As the century nears its formidable end, our global experience of universal proportions, predicted by many greats, will arrive at our solar system, to our system of a down.
Authoritarian oppression, family abuse, depression caused by conformity, and economic devastation will be neutralized by technological terrorism in times of complete chaos.
Control will never again be gained for toleration will become extinct. A husband quarrelling with his wife will not think twice or regret his spent bullet. Hungry children will not spare the grocer.
Remorse in all forms will be removed from human thoughts and actions.
Freedom will only be available through revolution or death. This system of a down is unavoidable as life on this planet becomes unnecessary.
The hand has five fingers, capable and powerful, with the ability to destroy as well as create.
We have the power to stop and reverse the tides of time by making our awareness of abuse known to the powers of industry and their uncouth political arms. Only by raising the awareness and promoting personal peace within today’s self-defeatist society, can we allow the planet a chance to avoid self-destruction!

OPEN YOUR EYES, OPEN YOUR MOUTHS,
CLOSE YOUR HANDS AND MAKE A FIST.

This band is pretty unique in their sound. Even if the lyrics are boarder line disturbing it still comes out beautiful. They also try and give some truth in their music. The voice of the singer Serj Tankian is fascinating to me. It seems like a shrill voice such as his would turn people away, but instead it draws people in.

Spiders in my favorite song by SOAD, it’s so beautifully sung and combined with the beats it is just something else. It never really gets heavy and it doesn’t need to. The part that I absolutely love is “The spiders all in tune, the evening of the moon, Dreams are made winding through my head”.

5 Of My Top Songs

  1. “Simple Man” by Shine Down

I know that the version by Lynyrd Skynyrd is really good, but this version just captives me in a way that I can not explain. I love this song because of its simplicity and beauty. I can listen to it on repeat and still be moved the millionth time I hear it.

2. “Another Brick In The Wall, part 2” by Pink Floyd

This song was my favorite for a long time. I started to like it after I heard it in a movie and it was just so amazing sounding and the lyrics made it come alive.

3. “Carry On Wayward Son” byKansas

I love this song, and I loveKansas. Their songs have so much meaning and they are set to beautiful melodies. I challenge you to listen to them and not love them, or at least respect them.

4.  “Walk” Pantera

So metal and so awesome; this song demands attention and it deservers it. The guitar is something else and over all its one great piece of art.

5.“ When Worlds Collide” by Powerman 5000

This one has a great tune and it is one of the songs that got me into the band. I would put this song on any play list.

Five Finger Death Punch

Started- 2006

This band is great to me because I love the singer’s voice (Ivan Moody) and it is highlighted in most of their songs. The mix of light and heavy styles they do is something I think fits them well. Even people who don’t like heavy music can listen to them and still enjoy the music which I find pretty interesting.

I have been to two concerts where Five Finger Death Punch has preformed, but both times I missed them. The first time was at Mayhem Fest and I was on the other side of the grounds when they were playing which I didn’t realize they were on; they were not a headliner. Then the second time was at Rock Fest and I wasn’t able to get to the show until they were done. I really want to actually see them; they are an amazing band that has come so far in not to long of a time.

A song that is one of my favorites of all time is “Bad Company”, the original is a song that is extremely well known and fucking amazing and the cover is almost as great. They changed it perfectly to fit them and the sound of it makes me so happy that they chose to cover it.

I really liked how this video showed the band over with troops interacting and having fun with them.

I don’t know if I  can even find a song I don’t like from this band. Check out some songs, like “Crossing over” and “Walk Away“.

Guest post: Robert Johnson

May 8, 1911 – August 16, 1938

Another music legend dying at the age of 27

Robert Johnson was not as popular when he was alive as he was after his death. He was known for playing on street corners and juke joints only to have put out a record the past 2 years of his life. His style and fame came from his signature Mississippi Delta Blues genre that he ultimately owned. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the first year it was around. Johnson Influenced people like Eric Clampton saying that Johnson was “The most important blues singer that ever lived.”

The legend of Robert Johnson is infamous. He sold his soul to the devil at the crossroads of US 61 and US 49. (The Romantics names their latest album after this “61/49”) The devil came to him on a night when Johnson was walking alone up the road headed north with a guitar strapped on his back. The devil offered him fame, women, whisky, and the seductive blues music that Robert Johnson is now known for. At first Johnson was hesitant until he met the devils dog. The dog was howling like no other dog has howled before. It was melodic, deep, and powerful. The devil said the dog was singing the Mississippi Delta Blues, and it could be his if Johnson just kept walking north from the crossroads to get to Rosedale, Mississippi. Of course Johnson asked why Rosedale? And the devil’s response was that he’ll arrive in Rosedale at midnight, and when he gets there he will play, and when any one hears him play from then on they will be possessed by the blues. Robert Johnson kept walking north to Rosedale and became the King of the Delta Blues that night.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Born-Thomas Earl Pretty on October 20th 1950

Group formed in- 1976

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame in 2002.

“I’d like to see us break some new ground and leave some sort of mark on the music. That would be the nicest thing – to give something back, as noble as it sounds. If you could make some little dent in rock, where that little area is yours – that’s what I’m striving for now.”       -   Tom Petty

Tom Petty’s music is something I love because it is just so easy to get into. It’s meaningful but still light enough that you don’t have to think about if you don’t want to. One song that I have always enjoyed by them is “I Won’t Back Down”. My favorite lines in it are ”You can stand me up at the gates of hell  But I won’t back down”.

This music is why I wish I were born a few decades earlier! It’s just so amazing, I know that they still tour, but it would have been totally different back in the 70′s and 80′s. One reason that this band has stood the test of time is because they all support each other. When Tom does his solo thing he is alway supported by his band members. That is something that not many bands, or even many relationships have.
